little big idea...'Stop buying new cars...' We own a 1995 Pontiac Firefly ...still...We don't drive that much, because, well, it is not such a great car...Sure it can get us places, but it is really not the kind of thing you go cruising in...or drive anywhere far...or if we can get a lift with someone else, we do...We joined Zipcars so that if we ever need to drive far, like to my husband's parents in Ottawa, well, we would have a really good car...maybe that BMW or the Prius hybrid...Having an older not so great car makes us a bit embarassed to drive around in it...So we have only put 50,000 km on it since 1998...For two people, that is pretty good...so here's the green little big idea...Hold off from buying that new car upgrade...see if you can live your lives with your crummy old car...Figure out ways to get around driving...Join Zipcars...& let the automakers & the oil drillers know that you are no longer addicted to the adrenalin rush of having & driving a new car...besides, you will save bundles on that Fitness Club you no longer need to join...

Although I'd love to have a hybrid, because of fuel costs, I agree. It makes no sense to me to spend so much money on a new car that depreciates so fast, of course I guess unless it gets really good gas mileage. and why don't we just use natural gas (methane) for fuel?, after all it is renewable.
With the money we saved on Not buying a new car we...1)got really exotic wild looking bengal kittens (2)some fab threads to wear to gallery openings & meet collectors 3)visited family & stayed in a hotel 4)bought Xmas presents for everyone we work with 4)paid off All credit card debts 5)new vacuum cleaner that is very quiet & cats not scared...good list eh? there is more...
